INSECTS Insects uses jaws and teeth to seize food and chew it. The spider has no jaws. It has a pair of fangs in front of its mouth that injects poison into flies and other prey. The poison quiets or kills the fly, and turns the contents of its body into a liquid. Then the spider feeds on the liquid. |

FISH Fish mouth and teeth differ greatly, depending on the kind of food the fish eats. Fish that eat other fish have large mouths and a plentiful supply of long, sharp teeth. Others have large lips and toothless mouths by which they suck up their food. |

BIRDS The beaks of birds lack teeth, but are fine for picking up seeds and crushing them. Many kinds of birds, also use their beaks to capture insects. The eagle and the owl tear their prey with hooked beaks. Many birds have such a strong sense of touch that they can locate worms below the surface of the ground with the tips of their beaks. |
