Human Food

Food is one of our most important daily needs. It gives us energy to play and to work. It makes us grow, and keeps our bodies strong and healthy. Without food, we die. All living things - plants, animals, and man - need food to live and grow.

But only plants make their own food.

They also provide food for animals and man.

All foods that we eat come from plants and animals . But all the people in the world do not eat the same foods.

The kinds of food that people eat depend largely on what plants they can grow and what animals they can raise. It also depends on what foods they can buy from other regions or countries. Customs and religion also influence what people eat.

In nations where food is plentiful and easy to get, men have more time to spend in activities that lead to progress and enjoyment of leisure.

The problem of providing good food  for everybody has not yet been solved. Many wars have been fought for the control of rich food-producing lands.

The nations of the world are putting scientific knowledge to work for a solution of their food problems. They work together in the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to help hungry nations produce more food.
